I downloaded Yahoo Messenger to communicate with a client, and a whole bunch of little Yahoo programs came along for the ride.
So now in my always compromised Internet Explorer program, I have a Yahoo toolbar that I don't want or need. Each time I kill it, it comes back again the next time Explorer is opened.
And that is just one of the lovely pieces of software that thinks for itself on our systems.
Picture this future - you load your system - only to wait - while the software plays with itself - pushing registration screens, downloading updates, and then you finally get a message from your system that it is ready for you.
That future is pretty much here - pardon my rant.
